Magical realism – a genre of novel that mixes our world with fantastic elements. Where does this term actually come from? And what kind of books are there in this fantasy subgenre?
“Could it be Love?”, the new novel by Lea Kaib, deals with the question once posed by the band QUEEN: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?”
17-year-old Bonnie has often been in love, and she keeps asking herself what her life would have been like if she had gotten together with her crushes. But unfortunately she doesn’t even dare to approach anyone because Bonnie is far too shy. She finds it easier to create a playlist for each unrequited love to remind herself of her feelings. But when she is suddenly thrown into an alternative world while listening to her songs and comes face to face with her first summer love, everything changes abruptly. And then there’s the mysterious Dee, who makes Bonnie’s heart beat faster.
In this mixture of reading, lecture and talk, we dedicate ourselves to the subgenre MAGICAL REALISM!

Lea is not only a passionate cosplayer, she also writes books! Her debut LOVE WITH PRIDE was published by S. Fischer New Media in 2021. COULD IT BE LOVE? is her first young adult book, which was published by ONE (Bastei Lübbe) on May 31, 2024.
